As a frequent hiker/canyoneer at Zion National Park, I have eaten at Oscar’s Cafe countless times and have never been disappointed. Their variety of huge, unique burgers, Mexican style food and vegetarian choices has always been a great reward at the end of a long day outdoors. Years later, in 2014, the owner opened another restaurant on the southern edge of Saint George called Hank’s Riverwalk Grill. I was thrilled to discover that I could get the same amazing food without driving to Springdale 45 minutes away. Since then, it has become a regular spot for my wife and I.

Food:

In general, they offer great variety. They have large burgers, great salads, Mexican style foods, fries, sweet potato fries, salmon and more. Many of their menu items are available as vegetarian and vegan diet friendly upon request and these options are clearly labeled on the menu. Another great thing about their food is the portions are large. I often leave restaurants disappointed, wondering “where’s the rest?” but this does not happen at Oscar’s or Hanks. The sandwich meals are the smallest meals I’ve had here and they are just barely enough for me, but all other meals leave me surprised to find left-over’s on my plate. Check out their menu (available online) before going. Links to their websites are at the end of this article.

Their large (1/2 pound), unique burgers are to die for! I’ve always been a fan of the Murder Burger (bacon, pepper jack cheese, mayo, etc.) but lately have tried others like the BBQ Burger (BBQ sauce, onions, bacon, etc.) and the Maui Burger (pineapple, bacon, Swiss cheese). Their ground beef is cooked with garlic, making it that much more savory. Be warned: you will need several napkins to eat a burger here!

The Mexican food is delicious. Not necessarily authentic, but very tasty and light compared to most Mexican food. Hint: the guacamole is excellent!

Salmon: I have to mention this meal because it is my personal favorite here. The salmon is heavily seasoned and glazed to give it a very rich flavor that is incredible! Juicy too! It is served with a basic salad, rice, beans and a baked poblano pepper stuffed with mashed potatoes, cheese and corn. This side dish itself is worth the trip.

Ambience:

Hank’s is a new building over-looking a golf course with a great view of Saint George and the surrounding red cliffs and mountains. It is spacious and not too busy, with sports playing on the TV’s.

Oscar’s is an older building, but kept very clean. It is often crowded as it is popular and close to Zion. I always have sat outside where there is plenty of shade from plants and the patio cover. They usually have misters on during the day as well. No view, but a nice atmosphere.

Both have good service.
